I like voice control for technology. Although it can be awkward in public, it can be useful, particularly when dealing with the hassle of implementing actions on your device. Though some studies have shown that Android’s voice commands actually gets you the relevant information/action faster, I still like the idea of a Siri. It’s somewhat nice for the phone to have a voice. Though I like Siri, she obviously has a long way to go. Many people talk about improving Siri by allowing her to access more options on your phone (e.g. “Siri, turn on my Wi-Fi”). Yes, of course this needs to be improved, but I would like to see better integration of 3rd person speech as well.
(side note: I do not have an iPhone, so take this with a grain of salt)
As is, if someone wants to have Siri text a friend, you must say “Text John, ‘What time is the meeting?’” Sure, this does work, but mid-sentence you have to switch from talking in 2nd person to Siri, to 2nd person talking to John. Siri should understand 3rd person so that I don’t need to think about this change in my head. In the case of my example, I would be able to say “Siri, ask John what time the meeting is” or “Siri, text john and ask him when the meeting is.” (ultimately I think communication methods will be ambiguous, so specifying ‘text’ won’t be a concern) This change will make Siri seem much more competent and assimilated to human communication.
